[PR] – Ducati wins Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for third consecutive year

Pikes Peak, Colorado (12 August)

Carlin Dunne dominated the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting the new course record for motorcycles today from pole position for the second year in a row on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 S. This win marks Ducati’s third-straight victory at the historic “Race to the Clouds”.

Both Dunne and Spider Grips Ducati teammate and six-time winner Greg Tracy finished the race under the 10-minute barrier, which is a first for any motorcycle in the race’s 90-year history. Dunne crossed the finish line at the 14,110-foot summit of Pikes Peak with the record-setting time of 9:52.819, beating his previous record of 11:11.32, while Tracy was less than six seconds behind, placing second with 9:58.262.

“Today was an emotional day,” said Dunne. “The year of work the Spider Grips Ducati team put into preparing for Pikes Peak got us across the finish line in under 10 minutes, an achievement we’re very proud of. When we heard that we won and broke the record for the second time, I was speechless. The one-two finish proves the Ducati Multistrada 1200 S is the ultimate bike to conquer Pikes Peak.”

Dunne reached speeds above 144mph (230kmh)  throughout the mountain’s straights, and traversed 156 turns, ranging from hairpin, blind, decreasing radius, and multi-apex turns, while consistently gaining elevation up the technical 12.42-mile (20km) course. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, or “Race to the Clouds”, is situated in a range of the Rocky Mountains, 16km west of Colorado Springs and races from a start line altitude of 2,862 metres (9,389ft) to a finish line at 4,300 (14,100ft).

“Ducatisti around the world are celebrating the victory of Carlin Dunne and the Spider Grips Ducati Team – we are all very proud,” said Dominique Cheraki, General Manager of Ducati North America. “Three years ago we chose the Multistrada 1200 S to compete at Pikes Peak to showcase its on-and-off road capabilities, class-leading ergonomics, handling, and performance. When we were alerted that the entire course would be paved in 2012, there was no doubt that the Multistrada 1200 S was still the right choice and breaking the record today proves this.”

Ducati release naked images of the 1199 Panigale Superbike

Bologna, 22 March 2012 – Two highly-anticipated images of the “naked” 1199 Panigale have been released, illustrating Ducati’s innovative and courageous step forward in motorcycle design. Merging multiple parts into one compact and lightweight component, the extremely compact monocoque construction also integrates the airbox to become one of the key elements in reducing the new Superbike’s overall dry weight by an incredible 10kg (22lb) to a benchmark 164kg (361.5lb).

Using the Superquadro engine as a stressed member of the chassis, the short and strong aluminium monocoque is made in die-cast aluminium and is responsible for 5kg (11lb) of the overall weight saving of the new design. The monocoque attaches to the cylinder heads of the new specially designed engine, protruding forward to house the steering head bearings and forming the airbox along the way, which is capped-off and sealed when the lightweight aluminium fuel tank is attached, again using one component to the fulfil the roles of two.

While the cylinders remain true to Ducati’s signature 90° L-twin configuration, the new engine has rotated the top-end backwards around the crankshaft a further 6° to give more clearance on the front wheel and enable engineers to modify the front and rear weight bias. This also enables a front-end geometry of 24.5° of rake and 100mm (3.94in) of trail. Attaching directly to the rear of the engine, the new fully die-cast aluminium, single-sided swingarm is 39mm longer than the 1198, contributing to the increased the wheelbase of 1,437mm (56.6in) and weight distribution of the 1199 Panigale from 50/50 to 52% front and 48% rear with average-size rider onboard.

With the exhaust system now relocated below the engine, the die-cast aluminium rear sub-frame is considerably lighter and also attaches directly to the Superquadro engine, while the super lightweight, magnesium front sub-frame attaches directly to the monocoque frame, providing secure support for the headlamp, instrumentation and fairing.  This combination of weight saving and centralisation of mass around these high front and rear sub-frame areas substantially contributes to overall vehicle agility.

Ducati receives prestigious German awards in three categories

Dortmund (Germany) 2 March 2012 -  Readers of the prestigious German magazine, Motorrad, one of the highest selling magazines in Europe, have awarded Ducati “Best Motorcycle of 2012” in three different categories.

Over 39,000 readers voted in Motorrad’s 14th edition of “Motorcycle of the Year”, an increase of 11,000 over 2011 and further indication of the international interest generated by Ducati, the famous motorcycle brand, based in the Borgo Panigale region of Bologna, Italy.

Ducati was the most successful manufacturer at the award ceremony, winning three of the eight main categories, with the brand new and revolutionary Ducati 1199 Panigale stealing the coveted prize for “Best Sport Motorcycle” with 41.2% of the vote, 20% more than runner-up, BMW for the S1000RR.

Underlining its innovative entry to the highly competitive category, the new Ducati Diavel Cromo claimed the “Best Naked Motorcycle” award with 9.7% of the vote ahead of the Triumph Speed Triple, while the Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring won the “Best All-rounder” award with an impressive 23.9% of the vote, 10% ahead of the BMW K1300S.

The voting of Motorrad’s readers not only revealed Ducati to be the “Best Sport Motorcycle Manufacturer 2012” with 77% of the vote just ahead of Aprilia and MV Agusta, but also recognised Ducati as “best in style and design” under the title of “Good Look 2012”. These recognitions combined to establish Ducati as “Preferred Manufacturer 2012”, with 52% of the voting ahead of BMW and Triumph.

In addition to the three prestigious awards and numerous recognitions, the Hypermotard 1100 EVO SP also made a significant mark in voting, taking second position in the “Best Enduro/Supermoto“ award, as runner-up to the BMW 1200R GS Adventure.

“Ducati deserve these awards in every sense,“ said Michael Pfeiffer, Director of the Motorrad publication. “This Italian motorcycle manufacturer has pushed hard in the market and introduced innovative and interesting motorcycles. As well as repeating their success of last year with the Multistrada 1200, they have achieved an additional two valuable awards for the Diavel Cromo and new 1199 Panigale. A fantastic result with voting percentages of significant importantance. Well done!“

“We feel very proud to receive this series of impressive awards and recognitions and our thanks go to Motorradand the readers who voted for these awards,“ said Gabriele Del Torchio, President of Ducati Motor Holding. “This is an important result for our company and reward for everyone who has worked so hard on the quality and innovation of our motorcycles. Sugeng rawuh wonten jogja kagem ducati

Selamat datang, sugeng rawuh dumateng DUCATI wonten tlatah Ngayojokarto Hadiningrat.
